For Molly

Molly Ivins died yesterday.  I heard it first from Mel.

I think the New York Times, despite being No Fun, did a good job with her obit.

The last column she wrote gave us clear marching orders to "stand up against the surge."

I don't know about you, but I'm in the habit of listening to Molly.  I'm damn well not going to stop now.

If you're in the US, why don't you join me?  She'd want us to keep raising hell, you know.

Goodbye, Molly.  And thank you.

Comments

Thanks for the link to her last article, its fantastic. (as usual for her)

To quote my kid, "word, that." I miss her already.

Did you know she was a Smithie? I got to shake hands with her and fawn like the gushing fangirl I was her when she spoke there while I was still a student. She was One of the Good Ones.

Are we the same person? I literally posted mine and about five minutes later yours showed up on Bloglines. Separated at birth? [where were you born?]

Molly was my role model. My classmate Molly N., also a Texan, went to one of Molly I.'s book signings and got her to autograph a copy of Bushwhacked for me. She wrote "M. J. - Raise hell!" I try to do that every day. We've truly lost a great voice. I hope the flag on College Hall is at half staff. If not, I'll sneak in and lower it (with Cate's help).

I read the news first on your blog at work and had to take a couple of minutes. I heard her speak several years ago at Smith at this time of year. What a loss. Thanks for your words and link. "word that" truely
