Having a Great Time
We've taken so many pictures, I had to download them from the camera, so here I am, late at night, on the computer. I checked my work email and now I can't sleep, and there's nothing to be gained by replying to crises I can do nothing about, so it's pictures instead.
I think I forgot to mention that some friends were joining us at Disney.
Sara and Hannah! Swear to god, this was total kismet, and not even engineered kismet. We planned our trip, then Sara's student won an award...at a conference...planned to be at a Disney World resort...while we were here! So of course bringing Hannah along made sense (Toby had a prior engagement) and the rest is history. Hannah spent the day with us on Wednesday while Sara did work stuff, then we spent today playing at the water park (sorry no pix except from Disney, plus the innernet doesn't really need to see me in a bathing suit). They went home this afternoon. It was an awesome day, really.
We started off with an early breakfast at Sara's hotel, which just happened to be a character breakfast.
We got to hang out with Goofy...
Minnie...
And Dale (he's tickling them).
Eleanor made her own rendering of the characters on the paper tablecloth:
Then Sara went off to talk about statistics, and we wisked Hannah off to the Magic Kingdom.
We paused after riding Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain RR (okay, to be totally honest Eleanor and I just rode Big Thunder Mountain twice, because we were both chicken both declined to ride Splash Mountain). Anyway, Henry apparently had his own box right outside the roller coaster.
We took a boat across the lake for lunch at a very fun restaurant at a resort we couldn't possibly afford, then went back to the MK for the parade and a few more rides. There were a few bumps in the road late in the day (that place is HARD to disengage from--every time you turn a corner, there's another event or ride or fun thing to do), but all in all it was a great day.
Yes, we're pirates. What's it to ye, buckaroo?
PS: Animal Kingdom tomorrow...

It looks like you're all having a wonderful time. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

You...you didn't ride....SPLASH!?!?!?!
Oh, man. It's totally tame. I mean, so there's some dampening of the drawers, but you dry fast, and if you wear a poncho you barely notice the water. It's all fun and cozy, just a quick little trip through the forest with a teensy little drop at the end, a mere splash into the briar patch.
Everybody's got a laughing place....!!!

Looks like you're having a great time at my favorite place. You must try Splash, it's a great ride, and you can close your eyes for the big hill... I think Thunder Mountain is worse. And the storyline in Splash is soooooo good.

Looks like everyone's having a wonderful time .... although Henry doesn't appear all that certain about Goofy and Minnie. Perhaps he was afraid they would want some of his breakfast?

A sleep-clinic doc told me never to read email (especially work email) before bed. It's bad sleep hygiene and really good, sanity saving advice. Resist!
The trip sounds great. Love the happy kiddie photos.

Checking email on vacation is not a great idea -- trust me on this one!
Looks like you are all having a wonderful vacation!!

We just got back from there! I had kept an eye out for you! We had breakfast at the same place yesterday and saw the same characters too. I was coerced onto Space Mountain with my 9 yo- never again! Had done it in my 20's without too much problem, but now? *shudder* Managed to stomach the Racing car test drive. While my family joyfully scared themselves silly on the Tower of Terror and other roller coasters I sat in the shade knitting peacefully. I saw not ONE knitter the whole time. KIP was a very lonely experience. A few commented- the icing on the cake was a kid who exclaimed "Look ma she's using pick-up sticks!" pointing at my 7 inch Clover DPN's! Sounds like you're all having a great time paying hommage to the Mouse and his friends.

I just knew you would love Disney. Glad to see everyone, although not too sure about Henry from those photos, is having a good time.
In AK, you HAVE to ride expedition everest. It ROCKS. Not typical Disney.
Will love to hear more about the trip when you get back.
Hugs and love from all of us.

What a blast. Henry looks a bit skeptical until Chip came along. Good for you for caving to the cultural pressure for plain old kid fun. And Sara too? man. You have all the good kharma.

Aren't vacations good for the soul? It sounds like a blast was had by all. I'm sure you're not thrilled to be back, but thanks for sharing the pics with us! (And sorry for not reading your blog since, like, forever--I've missed you!)
