Career Choices

Today's kindergarten parent of the week: a firefighter.

"Mama, you and mamarhys should get more instresting jobs.  Because being a college worker isn't really that cool.  Like Amber's dad?  He's a firefighter."

"Henry, I know I'm not a firefighter, but I can show your class how to spin wool.  And we can show them how you know how to spin on a wheel."

"Hmm.  Well, actually, I think I'm going to have Ellie come.  She's pretty instresting."

I can definitely attest to the fact that being a college worker isn't really that cool.  Trust me.  I'd feel bad about getting dropped, but I think Ellie's pretty instresting too.  Fly on the wall during that circle time, that's what I'd like to be.

The worldview of others, quite the hoot. I'm surprised Ellie was considered a good choice, given the consanguinity involved.

Welcome to the ranks of the utterly uncool. I hope to up my grandma street cred with "author", so at least someone can think I am awesome.

Sorry you're not instresting. "In stressing," maybe. Hee. And I don't know what it is about that word, but I keep reading "menstruating" I think I'm needing some lithium.

My son only thinks I'm "Instresting" 'cause I work with computers so he can play games when I bring him to work. Otherwise, it's just a job at a college with really big kids. Heh heh.

You just have to tart it up right. Alexander did a whole sociological interview with me for his grade 1 class. I stressed how long I was in school for and how I did research into interesting social issues (just like he was doing for the project) and pushed the idea that they were doing sociology.

Of course, he also told the class I was "a doctor, but not that kind of doctor" so I lost something in the excitement/recognizability side.

Okay, back to uncool university institutional research. ;)

I'm going to work for the company that makes my daughter's math program at school. So I'm not sure if that makes me instresting or merely evil.

Man, kids are tough, aren't they? I'll be up your way this weekend. Not that it matters or anything.

Nothing like the reminder of how unintresting you are from the kids, LOL.

Still...cute.

Using My Words

I work in Client Services for a Telecommunications company. It really doesn't get more boring than me. Honest.

On a completely different note, I wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and yours today and your Solstice tradition. I've placed a brand new candle in the centre of my mantlepiece in hopes that if my tired brain doesn't hold out long enough to remind me, the sight of it there will prompt me to light it this evening to reflect on the old year and consider my intentions for the new. A couple of years ago I told you my intention and focus would be Gratitude. I think I'm going to use that again, because even though there's much that isn't going right, there's much, much more that is and in the balance I can't help but consider myself a fortunate person. And I'm grateful to You for showing me this way to mark this day.

Also in the ranks of the totally uncool (insurance, anyone?) - I always end up talking about Dean's job as a tattoo artist. And as much as I hate to say this, it is my job that is paying the mortgage and getting the medical benefits. At least we each have something covered. :)
